In sapropel silt mud, organic substances (waxy, protein, fatty), organic acids, alcohols, resins and esters are the therapeutic factor.

The action of therapeutic mud is based on thermal, chemical and mechanical effects. Dirt has a high heat capacity and low thermal conductivity, due to which a pronounced thermal effect of exposure is manifested. Currently, in the mechanism of the therapeutic effect of mud, more importance is attached not to the thermal, but to the chemical factor.
