Mud treatment (peloidotherapy) in the sanatorium

Silt mud is a product of slow decomposition of dead small animals and plants under water. The Krasnaya Pakhra resort uses sulfide-silt mud of lake-key origin with a record content of iron sulfide and a high content of bromine salts. And Tambukan mud, also formed in salt lakes and estuaries.

The main role in the mechanism of therapeutic action of sulfide mud is played by hydrogen sulfide, which is formed due to the activity of sulfate-reducing bacteria of silt mud. In sapropel silt mud, organic substances (waxy, protein, fatty), organic acids, alcohols, resins and esters are the therapeutic factor.

The action of therapeutic mud is based on thermal, chemical and mechanical effects. Dirt has a high heat capacity and low thermal conductivity, due to which a pronounced thermal effect of exposure is manifested. Currently, in the mechanism of the therapeutic effect of mud, more importance is attached not to the thermal, but to the chemical factor. At the same time, the thermal factor enhances the chemical effect and causes general reactions of the body. The absorption of chemicals occurs due to the reciprocating movement of fluid in the sweat glands. Of the chemicals absorbed into the bloodstream, hydrogen sulfide, trace elements, organic acids (humic, valerian, etc.), esters, biologically active substances and various biogenic stimulants are of the greatest importance.

A single application of a mud application is a weak irritant, and a course one causes a restructuring of the entire organism and a change in its reactivity. Mud therapy is one of the most active methods of therapy of chronic inflammatory diseases. In children's practice, mud applications can be used from the age of 2, with cerebral palsy - from the age of 6 months.
